Only about 15% of the energy from the fuel you put in your tank gets used to move your car down the road or run useful accessories, such as air conditioning. The rest of the energy is lost to engine and drive line inefficiencies and idling. Therefore, the potential to improve fuel efficiency with advanced technologies is enormous. With an Electric Car it costs just $2.00 per 100kms with MUCH more performance than with petrol at $20.00 per 100kms.

Hey where did you get these numbers from?
I'm not doubting you in any way (i've already heard similar figures), I'm just looking for a source to quote.

The 15% efficiency number is quoted from a US Gov website.

$2.00 per 100kms is very conservative. Average consumption for an EV is 200wh/mi.. @ $0.10 kWh that works out at approx $0.02 per mile or $1.20 per 100km.

At $0.16 kWh (what I pay) it's $1.92 / 100km..

$2.00/100kms is hard enough for most people to believe let alone $1.00/100km which is actually closer to the truth.

$20.00 per 100kms is what my car costs to run. It does 0-60 in 6 sec and is rated at 14.5L/100km. It's obviously dependent on current fuel prices.
